Data Model

• Establishments — food businesses with hygiene ratings (0-5), inspection scores, addresses, and geocoded locations.
• Authorities — local councils responsible for food hygiene inspections.
• Ratings — the 0-5 rating scale plus Pass/Improvement Required for Scotland.
• Business Types — categories like Restaurant/Cafe, Takeaway, Retailer, etc.
• Regions — geographic regions of the UK.
• Score Descriptors — what Hygiene, Structural, and Confidence scores mean.

Gotchas

• No auth required: Public API. Must send x-api-version: 2 header on all requests.
• Pagination: Establishments search uses pageNumber and pageSize (max 5000).
• Geo search: Use longitude, latitude, and maxDistanceLimit (in miles) together.
• Rating values: England/Wales/NI use 0-5 numeric scale. Scotland uses Pass/Improvement Required.
