OneDrive

OneDrive for the signed-in user. Browse, upload, share, and restore files and folders; the default drive is usually personal OneDrive but additional document libraries may appear as separate drives.

First moves

1. Drives — list drives when the account has multiple libraries (personal OneDrive, SharePoint sites).
2. Drive info — read storage quota on the default drive or a specific drive id.
3. Items — browse a folder's children, search by keyword, or fetch one item's metadata by id.
4. Item by path — resolve a path like /Documents/report.pdf to item metadata when you lack the id.
5. File content — download text or small binaries inline; larger files return a download link.
6. Recent and shared — surface recently opened files or items shared with the user without walking the full tree.

Hierarchy

Drive → folder items → file items.

Folder ids and file ids come from list, search, recent, or shared responses. Use the drive root as the parent when listing top-level children.

Operational order

1. List drives when the user mentions SharePoint or you need a non-default library id.
2. Drive info when you need quota or owner metadata before bulk downloads.
3. Browse, search, or resolve by path before downloading — confirm mime type and size from metadata.
4. List permissions before revoking collaborator access; list versions before rolling back a file.
5. Download content only after you hold a file item id (not a folder id).
6. Check recent or shared lists for "that file someone sent me" before recursive folder walks.

Gotchas

• Folders vs files — content download applies to file items; folders return metadata only.
• Search scope — drive search runs from the drive root; combine with folder browsing when the user names a specific path.
• Large files — inline text and small binaries are capped; oversized payloads spill to a download link.
• Shared drives — pass the drive id when working outside the default personal library.
• Version restore — overwrites the current file; list versions first to pick the right snapshot.
• Pagination — folder listings paginate; keep paging until you have the full set or the user stops you.
• Rate limits — prefer search and recent lists over deep recursive listing on large libraries.
